Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse |
Adult survivors of abuse are oftentimes faced with residual feelings of fear, anger, or anxiety and may experience difficulty in developing positive relationships, frustration parenting their own children, feelings of low self-esteem, acting out behaviors or 'reliving' disturbing reminders of those difficult times in their lives. If guilt, esteem and boundry issues are addressed, as adults these same abused individuals may actually abuse children or adolescents. or interact with inappropriate behaviors themselves. Seek assistance from professionals skilled in recognizing the mental, emotional and physical aspects of those who have, or are currently suffering from sexual, physical or emotional abuse. Legal steps may be sought in an effort to stop the perpetration of the abuser's actions on others. It is the law that you must report neglect, sexual or physicial abuse to authorities.
