Internships with Access Referral Network provide:

  1. Opportunity to learn applicable aspects of writing and journalism for printed media, Internet and marketing campaigns, as well as design, publishing and time management skills.
  2. Opportunity to formulate and develop various materials for a wide range of target populations and topics.
  3. Introduction into both profit and non-profit aspects of business and development.
  4. Opportunity to interface with newspaper and other media groups (TV, radio, etc.)

Journalism-1
Internship Description

 

  1. Participate in general company meetings (4-6). Requirement waived and other conditions apply if intern does not attend university or live in San Antonio area.
  2. Work on any assigned team projects.  (3-5)
  3. Maintain weekly report (emailed or faxed) to supervisor (due each Monday by 9 am)
  4. Create or recommend one new or substantive idea appropriate for implementation on Access site and one non-profit site.
  5. Help to create and maintain an automated record to track completion of projects assigned (to do list, pending, etc)
  6. Develop, have approved & meet all suspense dates  (must meet deadlines)
  7. Proofread copy.
  8. Assist in writing marketing materials.
  9. Assist other teams and interns (from other depts., such as art/design) in development of other projects, as assigned.
  10. Compare/Contrast report:  Research 5-7 existing newsletter formats, listing strengths and weaknesses of each.  From this, present recommended lay-out for newsletter template of site.
  11. Assist in editing articles submitted for consideration by outside sources. 
  12. Research, layout, design, edit, compile 4 newsletters to display & download on site.
  13. Write 3-5 feature articles for the web site. 
  14. Prepare press releases and assist in other journalism projects as assigned.

  14. Create Master press release template for new members, Affinity Program, Affiliate Program and 1 ARN announcement.
  15. Prepare press releases. (5-7) Design and submit (3-5) workshop/seminar news releases.

Internship Description:

  5. Develop, have approved & meet all suspense dates for articles (must meet deadlines)
  6. Assist in writing marketing materials.
  7. Assist other teams and interns (from other depts. such as art/design) in development of other projects, as assigned.
  8. Compare/Contrast report:  Research 5-7 publishers to compare pricing, layout requirements of full color journals and deadline dates.
  9. Assist in obtaining and editing articles submitted for consideration by outside sources. 
  10. Assist compilation and edit Access Referral Network's ads (with design/art interns)
  11. Assist other teams and interns in development and publication of national quarterly journal (full-color) non-profit group.
  12. Write feature articles (2-4) for the web site.  (500 words or less, topics of interest to consumers or professionals).  Include 3-6 recommended books for consumers to reach on article topic.
  13. Create (1-3) PowerPoint programs (for 1/intro of journal to existing members, 2/info for the media about journal, and/or 3/on-site intro to journal)
  14. Prepare press releases. (3-5) related to the coming journal publications.

Added Features:  In an effort to generate possible employment opportunities and marketing for interns, a special area on our site features interns, including names, photos, university name, university contact information, project assigned to each intern, and resume.  Press releases will be sent to intern's area media (TV, radio, newspapers) regarding each intern, internship responsibilities and sponsoring university.  (Interns and sponsoring universities may also provide additional addresses, such as hometown or academic newspapers, for additional news release requests.)

Interns may also be invited to business development, networking and marketing meetings provided by city/community groups (in an effort to make the community aware of the interns skills and projects, and to assist interns in practical, application development and training for necessary future business relationship skills.)

Internships available for Fall, Spring, and Summer Semester.
