In order to receive the prestigious Consumer Advocate State "Award of Excellence", a state web-site must adhere to the following.  The site's web-site, by its very design and function, must:

Silver Award:
1. Value licensed professionals maintaining standards.
In order to actively prevent unethical individuals or groups from harming the name and reputation of professionals maintaining licensures in good standing, the state site has made Licensed Professionals names available to the public in the state in which they are licensed.
 
 
2. Serve as a consumer advocate.
State web-site allows easy access for the public to verify any professional's license.
 
 
3. Protect the confidentiality of a consumer.
Consumer not required to leave identifying name or email in order to access information.
 
 
4. Provide information in a non-discriminatory manner.
Consumer not prevented from accessing needed information and protections due to financial status, race, ethnic group or age. (No fees to access licensure information, so all are able to have equal level of access and protection.)
 
Gold Award:
 
5. All of above plus,
 
6. Acknowledge "Consumer Advocacy" State Support.
Site demonstrates it is actively educating residents regarding safety issues in selecting care professionals, as well as the respect due professionals who adhere to the higher levels of ethical standards through their licensing boards.
